SOLIDWORKS is the latest parametric Computer Aided Designing and Engineering software used to meet the demands of growing mechanical engineering industry. SOLIDWORKS Simulation allows designers evaluate their designs, and quickly and accurately identify any flaws in them. The designer will be provided with highly accurate data, which will help to make changes to the design before a physical prototype is produced. Mechanical engineers can save a lot of time, money, and effort by identifying these bugs with their designs as early as possible.

SOLIDWORKS uses parametric design which is why it’s such an effective tool for designers and engineers. This means that the designer can identify how changes will affect its neighboring components, or even the overall solutions. For example, if the size of a single component is enhanced, this would affect the joint or hole its attached to. This allows designers to rectify issues quickly.

Following are the basic features of SOLIDWORKS –

  • Simple and sophisticated 3-Dimensional CAD designs
  • Usage of Templates and inbuilt-CAD library for improved efficiency while development.
  • Automation and design reuse to accelerate the process.
  • Cost estimation tools helps to track real-time costs.
  • Ensures that potential risks are caught early with proper check.
  • Quickly produce 2-Dimensional drawings for production purpose.
  • Easily create animations and photorealistic projects.

The Drawings tools in SOLIDWORKS allow a designer to quickly create 2-Dimensional representations of any aspect of a design, with the option to bring changes with the click of a button. This helps designers, engineers, and architects, the ability of a thorough evaluation.

Once the design is complete, and the designer has eliminated potential risks identified in the simulation, a prototype of the same can be made. SOLIDWORKS  Aided Machining produces the design files that can be sent straight to production. The software also includes a searchable database of 3-Dimensional Printers generating 2-Dimensional sectional figures from solid geometry, while the 3-D EXPERIENCE Marketplace enables you to outsource the developed prototype and part manufacturing from right inside the User Interface
(UI).

SOLIDWORKS implementation affects vast stretches of the production field including-

  • Aerospace & Defense
  • Consumer Packaged Goods
  • Life Sciences
  • Transport & Mobility
  • Energy, Process, & Utilities

Advantages of SOLIDWORKS include –

  • Easy to Learn
  • Product Data Management with ease
  • Designing packages with accuracy
  • Automation possible
  • Motion Analysis possible

Conclusion

With the advantages and disadvantages of SOLIDWORKS considered, it’s clear that there are far more advantages to using this incredible software than there are disadvantages. SOLIDWORKS helps new users by not throwing too much at them all at once, and has plenty of educational aids to allow learners to go at their own pace.
