Oil leaking from your exhaust is a concerning issue that can signal several underlying problems with your vehicle’s engine. This blog delves into the potential causes of oil leakage from the exhaust, what it means for your car, and how you can address and prevent these issues.

REASON FOR OIL LEAKAGE –

  • Too much oil

When there's too much oil in the system, it can increase pressure on the crankshaft, forcing oil into the exhaust pipe.

  • Worn parts

Worn piston rings, cylinder walls, or valve seals can allow oil to enter the combustion chamber.

  • Bad PCV valve

A faulty Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) valve can cause oil to leak into the combustion chamber.

Other common causes of oil leaks include: A leaking oil filter, A bad gasket, A worn seal, A loose drain plug, and A damaged oil pan.

If you notice oil leaking from your car's engine, it's best not to drive it. A low oil level can damage the engine. If you must drive, keep your trips to 10 miles or less.

DIAGNOSIS OF OIL KEAGE ISSUE-

  • Smell

A hot oil smell is a sign that oil has leaked onto the exhaust manifold. This is usually easy to notice because the smell is unpleasant.

  • Blue smoke

Blue smoke coming from the exhaust pipe can be a sign of an oil leak. This can be caused by an internal or external oil leak.

  • Overheating

If your car's engine is overheating, it can cause oil to burn in the exhaust area. You might be able to smell oil inside the car.

SOLUTIONS TO OIL LEAKAGE –

  • Perform regular maintenance: Get routine oil changes and tune-ups, and have a professional inspect your vehicle at least once a year. During an oil change, your technician can check for leaks and replace your oil filter and gaskets.
  • Check oil levels: Regularly check your engine oil levels using the oil gauge.
  • Inspect seals and gaskets: Check the seals and gaskets for wear and tear.
  • Replace worn or damaged parts: Replace any worn or damaged parts as soon as possible.
  • Avoid overworking your engine: Avoid hard braking and overworking your engine.
  • Stay within weight limit: Stay within your car's weight limit as indicated in the owner's manual.
  • Analyze lubrication oil: Analyze your lubrication oil at regular interval

CONCLUSION –Regular car maintenance is essential for keeping your car in good condition and safe to drive. Vehicle maintenance is a crucial responsibility for all vehicle owners. Neglecting it can also lead to dangerous consequences, including brake failure, tire issues, and visibility problems.
